Last minute booking for, The Condor Trek 2024 in Ecuador is one of the most famous hikes in the Andes mountains. National Geographic Adventure listed the Ecuadorian Condor Trek in its 2014 Adventure Bucket List and recommended us at Ecuador Eco Adventure to guide you on the trek.
The Condor Trek is an exhilarating 4-day, 3-night hike that offers an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in some of Ecuador’s most awe-inspiring and remote landscapes. This physically demanding journey begins in the Cayambe-Coca Reserve, near Papallacta, a region known for its vibrant ecosystems and natural hot springs. From there, the trail weaves through the Antisana Reserve, where the diverse wildlife and striking landscapes are complemented by breathtaking views of Antisana, one of the most majestic volcanoes in Ecuador.
As you traverse through the paramo—a high-altitude ecosystem unique to the Andes—you’ll experience an ever-changing landscape that ranges from lush forests to sweeping, windswept grasslands. The trek offers unparalleled views of two of Ecuador’s most iconic mountains, Antisana and Cotopaxi, each standing tall and imposing on the horizon. The Condor Trek takes you through valleys and ridgelines that not only challenge your endurance but also reward you with some of the best vistas in the country.
The highest point of the trek reaches 4,500m (14,763ft), located at the base of Volcano Sincholagua, where the thin air and stunning surroundings create an intense and rewarding experience. At this altitude, you’ll be surrounded by jagged peaks and pristine valleys, with the majesty of the surrounding mountains making every step worthwhile. This heavy-duty trek is designed for seasoned hikers who are ready to push their limits, both physically and mentally, as they navigate the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather conditions that characterize Ecuador’s highlands.
Along the way, you’ll have the chance to witness not only dramatic scenery but also abundant wildlife, such as condors, alpacas, and unique plant species that thrive in this pristine environment. The trek’s challenging nature, combined with its stunning beauty, makes it an unforgettable experience for those seeking a true adventure in one of South America’s most striking regions. The Condor Trek is not just a physical journey—it is an exploration of Ecuador’s natural wonder, where every day brings new challenges and rewards.
You can combine this trip with the Climb Cotopaxi Volcano expedition, within the Cotopaxi National Park, is the second-largest mountain in Ecuador and its 5,897m (19,347ft) summit makes it one of the largest active volcanoes in the world.
Mount Cotopaxi is the most popular climb in Ecuador because of its stunning views of the crater at the summit and because backpackers with no mountain climbing experience can attempt the climb.
Transfer to the northern side of Antisana Reserve, we start the trek from El Tablon – 6-7 hours trek to Laguna del Volcan where our first camp is set
