The ascent typically begins from the José Ribas Refuge at around 4,800 meters (15,748 feet) above sea level. From there, climbers embark on a challenging yet rewarding journey to the summit. While the climb doesn’t require technical skills, it does involve traversing rocky terrain, navigating crevasses, and ascending steep snow slopes.
Prior acclimatization is crucial to mitigate the effects of altitude sickness and ensure a safe and enjoyable climb. It’s recommended to spend a few days in the area, gradually increasing altitude through day hikes before attempting the summit.
